Specialised inspections for Porsche Cars

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

We know Porsche!

We are probably the largest independent inspectors of used Porsche in the UK, and were sole provider of inspection services on all sports, premium and luxury cars to the AA through their outsourced partners from November 2004 to April 2007.

We use marque experts who know each marque – not general mechanics. If it’s a Porsche, you get a Porsche guy! In the summer we inspect up to 15 Porsche per week so have a good handle on market conditions.

Whilst the most common car checked is the Boxster, we inspect many 996 and 993 911 models, going back to the entry 3.0 Carrera and sought-after 3.2. Even a £5k 944 or 928 is worth inspecting as although our fee may be a relatively significant proportion of the cost, they cost as much to repair as much later and more valuable cars.

Our Managing Director, Mark Wibberley is a 3 times and current Porsche owner, and regularly attends Porsche events. Our specialised Porsche inspectors throughout the UK are carefully selected for their knowledge and experience.

Our UK-wide fee for Porsche is £275 inc. VAT, travel and a verbal and written report. Note: WE COVER THE ENTIRE UK INC. NORTHERN IRELAND

Rear Main Seals (RMS) on Porsches, and human beings

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

If anyone knows anything about the 996 and Boxster, they will always be concerned about the dreaded oil leaks around the bell housing (the other item is Nikasil bore liners leading to total engine failure, usually in cars at 25-30,000 miles (allegedly, in case Porsche are reading)).

RMS on Porsch 911

We make a point of checking the RMS area but seals can expire at any time and without warning. However, independent specialists can repair the RMS for 6 hours labour (manual, 14 hours Tiptronic) at around £50 an hour, and that parts kits cost £50. Main Porsche centres charge £890 plus vat. Go independent and save over 50%. In our view its pointless to pay Porsche Centres to do this as it will not affect your warranty ( it should be repaired under warranty anyway) nor a FPSH (Full Porsche Service History). If you wish to keep the stamps in your book, which many people do until the car is about 6 years old, get an OPCs to do your service, but a FPSH is unaffected by who does running repairs like this. This includes brakes too.

We report on what we see on the inspection, and advise on whether an urgent repair is required, or regular checking is sufficient. And it helps us if you can reiterate to the vendor to bring his paperwork and keys with him - we can only report on these if we see them !

Also bear in mind, that in cars of 2, 3 or more years old, there will be a chip here or there, a scuff, but we are dealing here with second hand cars which will always bear testimony to their being not new. In the classics trade its called ‘patina’, in the used trade its called ‘wear’. Be realistic about what you expect and you won’t be disappointed.

So: RMS - if its only a weep or slight leak, perhaps best to keep an eye on it rather than run out and fix it as soon as there’s any misting of oil

Comments from recent Porsche clients

I thought Ron’s report was a very professional report too.

Robin Perry, Porsche 911 (1996), inspected in Peterborough, January 2006

Thanks for a fantastic service; the comprehensive inspection saved me making a big mistake. I will be booking another inspection once I find a suitable car.

Dave Pritchard, Porsche 944, inspected in Avon, January 2006

Spoke to your inspector - awaiting his report, but I am very impressed with your service so far.

Matt Parkinson, Porsche 964, inspected near Peterborough, January 2006

Just a wee note

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Just a wee note to say thank you for all your assistance.

This service was invaluable in assisting with my recent purchase. I have enjoyed this weekend after collecting the Porsche and traveling back to Scotland, something I would have been wary of without the inspection. Thanks again.

Campbell C Archibald. Porsche 964 C4 Cabriolet, inspected in Suffolk, April 2006

Over £1,200 of work

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

They have agreed to do all repairs that your inspector suggested included in the price the car is offered at. So it looks like it was incredibly worthwhile as its over £1,200 of work I reckon.
Please pass on my thanks to Mark, for an excellent service. Fast and faultless.

Jeremy Rainbird, Porsche 993 C2S, inspected in Newcastle, May 2006
